Helpful Links to Start Your Week

One of my projects for today is to visit a bookstore to devise a marketing plan that includes advertising in a few newsstand magazines.

Another project is to get some newly-created flyers in the mail. This should keep me off the net for a while.

Here are some Web finds to check out between your projects.

1. American Express is starting a flat fee charge of $5.95 per month for all merchants with less than $5,000 in Amex-charged sales per year. Will the expense cancel your merchant membership? The details are explained more on the GiftBasketBusiness.com blog, another company I maintain.

2. Getting Finances Done details how to make the most of your solo business money in Budgeting on a Self-Employed or Irregular Income. This post was found through Successful Blog. Thanks, Liz.

3. More events were added to the Solo Business Marketing business conference page. Plan to attend events where mentors gather, seminars inspire, and marketing through business cards occurs.

Marketing Plans Made Simple

Plan to succeed Anyone who uses an American Express (AMEX) credit card for business purposes should occasionally receive some type of Email correspondence from the company.

Sometimes they send you updates on their products and services. Other times they provide a link to attend special events or read articles on their Web site.

Yesterday, AMEX sent me an Email link to review a one-page marketing plan, which encourages the reader to create the same type of plan if one has not been written.

The AMEX article focuses on building a marketing plan around three questions. That’s one way to get something on paper and help you determine where you want to be in business.

This is a simplified option for anyone who doesn’t have a clue where to start when planning. Of course, AMEX’s real goal is to push their small business line of credit program, which is mentioned at page bottom.

Forms that Lighten Your Load

Forms to streamline your workload One thing I find myself doing, more than ever, is creating things from scratch.

It seems that every project requires something that I don’t already have or haven’t yet designed. Am I alone, or are most small and solo business professionals in the same boat?

My business requires lots of forms. If I’m not crafting one to document marketing campaigns, I’m making one to include in a new book or another publication.

That’s why I was glad to find numerous pre-made forms on the Office Depot Web site.

Free, downloadable forms for business start-up, marketing, finance, and more are organized on one page. Anyone working on their own will find something of use here, and you definitely want to bookmark this page for future reference.

When I start my day at 6:30 am, the last thing I want to do all day is design a form. Do you feel the same about your day?

Weekend Videos to Watch

You get the snacksYou’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for the latest video releases from retail chain stores on this list. There are plenty of places to find that information. I have something else for you.

Yesterday, the U.S. Postal Service published their online newsletter.

It features an article about a coffee retailer who’s up against the major players with whom we’re familiar.

A video is also available to hear the owner’s take on his “entrepreneurial seizure” and what he’s doing to rise above the competition.

You’ll find that story here as well as five more links to videos on startup, marketing, growth, tips, and running a family business.

I believe in winding down on the weekend with movies and popcorn (or fruit in my case). Fit that into your schedule as well as the above link.
