Another Idea to Connect with Clients

The question “Which day is best for online newsletter delivery?” has long been studied by marketing groups and reported in cyberspace.

Bob Bly revisited the subject in his recent column in DM News. The article reveals that for any type of online contact, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, respectively, are the best days to Email subscribers.

It’s also important experiment with delivery times. That’s because individuals are located worldwide, receiving your news in different time zones.

There was another interesting tip, one that you can try very easily and gauge the response. The idea is to send subscribers a second communication, one that arrives on Sunday. This one includes a quick review of your main newsletter’s theme along with beneficial links to start the upcoming week productively.

I tried this yesterday. My news compilation took 20 minutes to create, test, and Email. Because it was the first Sunday issue, sent to subscribers without warning, I asked them to comment on the extra edition. Was it unnecessary and overwhelming, or was it helpful and inspiring?

My subscribers responded in positive tones, so for me, this idea is a keeper.

Read the article before deciding whether or not this option to connect with clients is for you.

IRS Delivers Small Business News via Email

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) publishes e-News for Small Businesses, a newsletter with tax resource information compiled from their Web site.

The May 9th issue included a link entitled, “Do You Know How to Claim Business Use of Your Vehicle?” The link leads to a page that discusses car expenses and how to properly deduct them.

Many of us use a vehicle for business, so this update helps us to track mileage and other beneficial deductions.

My car’s glove compartment stores a mileage tracking booklet purchased from an office supply store. I keep a pen in the middle storage box between the two front seats. The car’s tripometer is reset to zero before I begin my travel, and when I return to “base camp,” I document where I went and miles used before leaving the car.

There are times you may forget to write in your mileage book, but the more it becomes a habit, the more deductions you can deduct.

Mileage documentation may be an unglamorous topic, but it’s one that lessens the tax bite.

Here’s where you can subscribe to e-News for Small Businesses.

Library Learning Goes Beyond Books

There are times when you realize that you’ve been sitting alone in your office for too long. What are the clues?

  • You have too many business cards in your possession.
  • You talk to yourself too often.
  • You consult Weather.com for climate reports instead of take a walk or drive.
  • To remedy this hermit activity, I decided to check out what’s happening at local libraries.

For me, local not only means what’s happening at my town’s library but also what’s going on in New York. Not everyone has the luxury of being near a metropolis, but when you are, it’s smart to take full advantage of the proximity.

Tonight I plan to attend Finding the Statistics You Need at one of the New York Public Library’s branches. I serve two very tight niches and have been unable to locate statistics on these groups. I don’t think the statistics exist, but I’m hoping that the presenter will provide leads to uncover this valuable information.

See what your surrounding libraries offer. Attend interesting events to learn and meet like-minded people. Propose a seminar or event to the coordinator that you wish to present. That’s another way to elevate your expertise and possibly find clients. It’s what I’ll do after hearing this evening’s presentation.

At the end of the day, I’ll have distributed business cards, talked with someone other than myself, felt the warm wind on my face, and acquired knowledge to build my business. Sounds like a plan we can all achieve.
