What to Do When Plan A Falls Apart

Chilly day stopped mass transportationNothing annoys you more than something simple not running smoothly, but then you think and act positively, deciding to turn a problem into a productive day.

Yesterday, I mentioned that I was headed to New York for the Small Business Summit. However, a traffic problem at the Lincoln Tunnel delayed bus transit.

I stood waiting for my bus in brutally-cold weather (10 degrees F with brisk wind), and after 45 minutes of not seeing mass transportation flowing in either direction, I knew something was wrong and walked back to the office.

I never learned what tied up traffic, but as long as the Internet was up and running, I promised myself a spectacular day. And that’s just what I got. By day’s end, I:

  • Made contact with a trade show coordinator who now awaits my proposal to conduct four seminars in Florida.
  • Began a search for Florida-based business groups to network with or speak at their meeting while I’m in town.
  • Secured a domain name to promote a new book I’m writing for launch in April.
  • Typed half of the content for the upcoming book.
  • Checked and organized bills so I don’t miss due dates.
  • And that was before lunch.

I was disappointed about not traveling, but I didn’t allow that hiccup to ruin my day. That’s why we solo marketers move forward successfully and make it look easy to everyone around us.
