Marketing Lessons Found on Facebook
Anita Campbell of Small Business Trends interviewed Shama Hyder yesterday on How to Use Facebook to Market Your Business.
This topic gained my attention because I focus on my Facebook page more than my other social pages. I like learning how associated friends navigate marketing through the updates added to their profiles.
As Sharma says, there’s no need to spend a lot of time on Facebook. What’s most important is the quality time spent researching opportunities, gathering ideas from other members, and adding relevant information about yourself.
Listen to the recording when you have time. I plan to hear it again, as I was 12 minutes late for the initial broadcast. I have a feeling that what Shama says about Facebook may be transferable to other social settings.

What’s Your Conference Agenda?
Today, I’ll spend my time with other entrepreneurs at the Small Business Summit in New York City.
It will be a welcome change from working on projects in my office.
Not only will there be many exhibitors and business owners available for networking, but there will also be seminars and a variety of items to win, including my book, Marketing Strategies for the Home-Based Business: Solutions You Can Use Today.
I look forward to taking a picture with the winner and autographing the book.
Small Business Summit is listed on the events calendar. Perhaps you’ll also find an event in your area where you can mingle with entrepreneurs and new develop business relationships.

Charity Goes Beyond Giving Money
These six ideas (rewritten for this post) satisfy your philanthropic goals and passively market yourself and business to others who’ve gathered to do the same.
Cause and Effect, published in The Wall Street Journal’s philanthropy section on December 10th, explained how small firms give charitably without writing checks. The “give a percentage of certain product sales” (No. 3 above) does actually pass money to the non-profit group, but it does so through specific sales, so the money’s been collected as part of your revenue.
Giving your time to local organizations not only strengthens your community (a great aspect in itself), it also opens many doors of opportunity to recommend you for projects not normally available to business owners outside of a charity’s circle.
Let’s face it. The level playing field isn’t always level. Being associated with people in different circles will always be the preferred way to achieving success personally and professionally. When you work together for a common community goal, it’s only natural that you’ll start talking business. That’s when the marketing doors open to reveal new revenue sources.
I encourage you to look at the above list and decide which door you’ll open today.

What I Learned Last Night at Meetup
Last night, thanks to my friends Des Walsh and Suzie Cheel, I attended the Web 2.0 Meetup in New York.
The mix of networking and business presentations warmed the chilly evening.
If a Meetup group is within or near your area, I urge you to attend to not only meet like-minded people but to also hear new ideas and learn about opportunities you may not have considered.
Sorry to say I must keep this post brief, as I’m off to discover more about the services presented at last night’s event. Perhaps these sites will be beneficial to you, too.
